This page describes a current work in progress in the CSIL.

The CSIL Macintosh computers all provide graphical remote access to the Linux Lab's Shuttle PCs. This allows students to have the same experience at any CSIL Mac OS X machine as they would at the Shuttle PCs themselves.

This service is available to any student with a Computer Science account, and will randomly select a machine for that individual's use. If you need access to a specific computer, please ask at the tutor desk.

Beginning a Remote Login:

  1. Click on the "Connect to a CS Linux Machine" icon on the desktop.
    launch the script
  2. This will automatically open iTerm, and prompt you for your password. Enter your password and press "Return".
    login window
Please note that this may open an additional iTerm window. This behavior is expected.
  3. A GNOME session will be launched with X11. This is the same environment that the Shuttle PCs provide for local logins.
  4. To log out of GNOME, go to the system menu, and then Log Out user.
    logout window
  5. Use Ctrl-C to stop the script.
